A Town Council For Stoke

Proposed Stoke Town Council Boundary
Councillor Gavin Webb believes that local people should have a greater influence in how their community is run. That is why he has launched the campaign to introduce a Town Council for Stoke.

During his recent election campaign for Stoke and Trent Vale, Gavin promised voters that he would campaign to ensure that local people had a greater say in how their local communities are run.

A Town Council - made up of local, elected residents - has the potential to ensure that real power and influence is returned to you and your neighbours. The only thing that is needed is the will to take that responsibility.

Local people will have a closer relationship with how much money is raised to pay for local services, and with this, a closer relationship to how those services are provided.

And remember, any taxes will not be additional to the City Council Tax. If the Town Council takes responsibility for all the parks in it's area, you pay your tax for the parks to the Town Council, not the City Council.

The proposed Stoke Town Council area comprises loosely of the old Stoke Borough Boundaries of 1910 - which make up the existing wards of Stoke and Trent Vale, and Hartshill and Penkhull - and will contain approximately 10,495 properties and 18,474 voters.

This is around ten percent of the City's voting population.

So, if you're interested in this idea, why not take part in the quick poll below. After voting, you can also leave Gavin a comment if you wish, particularly if you're eager to help the campaign to give residents of Stoke Town a greater influence over their own neighbourhoods.

If you want to ask Gavin a question about this before taking part in this poll, you can do so here.
